Explore the sand dunes of the Gobi Desert by camel, the Terelj National Park on the back of a horse and the old monastery ruins of Erdene Khamba by foot. Stay in a traditional Ger Camp and enjoy a folklore concert from the magical Tumen Ekh ensemble on this tour. Allow yourself to take in the sight of the beautiful Yoliin Am gorge, the Turtle Rock and the highest horseman statue in the world. Wonder through the streets of Ulaanbaatar and taste the traditional flavours in local restaurants.
The Gobi Desert and Ancient Capital Karakorum Tour will take you on a journey through the fascinating cites of the Gobi Desert and the nomadic lifestyle, all in 11 days.
Once you have arrived in Ulaanbaatar, our representatives will be waiting for you and provide you with a transfer to the hotel. The rest of the day is at leisure taking good rest before your adventure in Mongolia.
After breakfast, you will meet your guide and driver at the hotel lobby where you will soon drive out from Ulaanbaatar toward Terelj National park.
Before entering the park, you will pay a visit to the massive Chinggis Khan’s horseman statue located in Tsonjin boldog. With its 40m, the statue is considered as the highest horseman statue in the world.
Transfer to the ger camp in Terelj National park. After you have enjoyed your lunch, you will discover the park including a visit to the Turtle rock and the Aryapala temple of meditation with a short hike. Here you will also enjoy a 1-hour horseback ride through the park after which you will have dinner and your overnight stay in the ger camp.
After breakfast, you will check out from the ger camp and travel back to Ulaanbaatar where you will visit the Gandan Monastery housing 26m statue of Bodhisattva.
You will enjoy your lunch at a local restaurant after which a visit is paid to the National History museum, Sukhbaatar square and Zanabazar Fine Art museum. After the city tour, you will be transferred back to your hotel where you will have free time to get dinner.
Today, there will be an early morning flight to Gobi town. Upon arrival, you will meet with your local driver and travel to the Gurvan Saikhan Mountain where you can visit the beautiful Yoliin Am gorge. Enjoy 2-3-hour hiking in the narrow gorge while observing flora and fauna in this mountain. Before exiting the park, you will pay a visit to the local natural history museum. Today’s lunch will be at the Khanbogd camp located nearby after which you will proceed to the Dream Gobi lodge for your overnight stay.
Today you will be heading to the long sand dune called Moltsog, part of the occasional sand dunes in the landscape of the Gobi Desert. Here, you will enjoy a 1-hour guided camel ride along the dunes with a breathtaking view of the desert.
The lunch will be back at the lodge and in the afternoon, you will be taken to the Khavtsgait Petroglyph. The Khavtsgait Petroglyph has a group of rock paintings in several rocks and dates back to 8000BC to 4000BC. There are ancient paintings of wild animals such as Big Horn sheep, Ibex, wolf, as well as horse riders, ox card and many more.
Return to the ger camp in the late afternoon, dinner and overnight at the ger camp.
After breakfast, you will head to Bayanzag which is famous by its name ‘Flaming Cliffs’ since 1920’s scientific exploration team visit to Mongolian Gobi. The first dinosaur eggs were found from this place. You will pay a visit to the famous Flaming Cliffs and enjoy hiking around before heading to the Saxual tree forest in the area. Lunch at Gobi tour ger camp and in the afternoon, you will get the chance to visit a nomadic family and experience the nomadic way of life.
Today, there will be a flight to Ulaanbaatar in the morning where you will meet with your driver at the airport on arrival and head to Hustai National Park where Takhi wild horses graze peacefully with other wildlife. After 2/3 hours you will arrive at the ger camp in the National Park where lunch is waiting for you. In the afternoon, a visit to the Hustai National Park is planned for you to spot endangered Takhi wild horses.
In the morning, check out from the ger camp and drive to Khugnu Khan nature reserve where you will check in at the next tourist camp.
In the afternoon, you will visit the Erdene Khamba Monastery where you will do a short hike around the old monastery ruins. There will be a visit to the Mongol sand dunes and a nomadic family in the area to witness their hospitality and familiarize with their way of life. Dinner will be served at the ger camp where you will have your overnight stay.
Today, you will be taken on a day trip to Karakorum, the ancient capital of Great Mongol empire ruled by Chinggis Khan. Upon arrival, visit to legendary Erdenezuu Monastery built on the ruins of Karakorum city in 1586. There will be a visit to the Karakorum museum which gives a good introduction to Central Mongolia, its’ history and the UNESCO world heritage site Orkhon valley.
After an early breakfast, you will be taken back to Ulaanbaatar. Arrive and transfer to the hotel for check in. In the afternoon, visit Bogd Khan’s palace museum and Zaisan memorial hill after which you will have free time for optional shopping for souvenirs or maybe cashmere. In the evening you get the chance to enjoy the traditional folklore concert from magical Tumen Ekh ensemble. Dinner at local restaurant.
You will be transferred to the airport after breakfast and that is where your journey will end.
