This is your chance to experience the traditional life of Nomads in Mongolia. Get a glimpse of a real competition at the Nomads’ Day Festival including archery, wrestling and horse racing, enjoy the view of steppe, forest and rocky mountains in the Terelj National Park and surprise yourself with a stroll through the unique city of Ulaanbaatar.
Immerse yourself in the Mongolian way of life where you both experience the Nomads life as the city one. Visit monasteries, museums, local restaurants, National Parks and enjoy the folklore concert of the magical Tumen Ekh ensemble. Allow yourself to enjoy the landscape on the back of a horse and experience the dunes on a camel ride.
This 10 days journey will take you to a various range of landscapes, witness the last remaining wild horses on earth in their natural habitat and introduce you to the daily life of Nomads.
Meet your guide and driver at the airport in Ulaanbaatar after custom formalities and transfer to the hotel. The rest of the day is free for rest or independent exploration.
Meet your guide at the hotel lobby at 9 am where you will start your city tour taking you to some of the principle sites of this unique city. This ever-changing city will surprise you with its wild traffic, nightlife and bohemian counterculture. During the tour, you will visit Gandan Monastery, housing 26 m statue of Bodhisattva, where you will enjoy watching the morning chant. Continue the tour to the National History Museum and pass the Sukhbaatar square.
A welcome lunch will be served at a local restaurant, letting you explore the flavours of Mongolia. A visit to Bogd Khan’s palace museum, a residence of the last king in Mongolia, is waiting for you in the afternoon after which the breath-taking panoramic view of the city from the Zaisan memorial hill will leave you astonished. A transfer will wait for you to the hotel and the rest of the day is free time.
The day will start at 8am where you will meet in the hotel lobby to start your Central Mongolia Tour to the west. Your first destination is Elsen Tasarkhai, located in the Khugnu Khan Nature reserve. After a 4-5-hour drive, you will arrive at the Khugnu Khan area and continue to the first tourist ger camp.
A short drive is waiting for you after lunch to visit the Erdene Khamba Monastery ruins where we will do a little climb and hike on the mountain. Enjoy a 1-hour camel riding along the dunes and visit a nomadic family ger to get an introduction to the nomadic lifestyle.
Today, you will have a short drive (2 hr or less) to Karakorum, the ancient capital of mighty Mongol Empire led by Chinggis Khan. Upon arrival in Karakorum you pay a visit to the Erdenezuu monastery which is the first Buddhist monastery in central Mongolia constructed on the ruins of the ancient capital city. Continue onwards to the Karakorum museum and the newest museum of archeology that is exhibiting the finds explored from Orkhon river valley. It is optional to visit the local bazaar in the town. Visit the King’s monument to enjoy the view of the historical Orkhon river valley.
You will have you Dinner and overnight stay at the get camp.
This morning, you will head to the Hustai National Park where Takhi wild horses graze peacefully with other wild life. Upon arrival, you will be transferred to the tourist ger camp where lunch will be served. Visit the information center of the park and start the excursion into the park to get a glimpse of endangered wild horses and enjoy some hiking. You will have you dinner at the ger camp where you will also have your overnight stay.
After breakfast, you will drive to the beautiful Terelj National Park located in the Khentii Mountain range. A combination of steppe, forest and rocky mountains will fill your view within the Terelj National park after which you will visit the temple of meditation for the breath-taking sight of the valley and the Turtle Rock. Here, you get the change to immerse yourself in this beautiful park on the back of a horse. Enjoy this 1-hour horseback ride and make yourself ready for the First Day of the Nomads’ Day Festival tomorrow.
In the morning, you will drive east towards the Gun Galuut nature reserve. A short break of the journey will be held at the Giant Chinggis statue; the tallest horseman statue in the world. Continuing further to Gun Galuut to witness the Nomads’ Day festival including Nomads’ everyday life showcase with nomads’ migration, animal husbandry, cooking, horse demonstration, and many more.
In the afternoon, you will be lucky enough to participate the Metropolitan guy competition among visitor. Enjoy a folklore concert from local school artists after which you will have your dinner and overnight stay at the tourist camp.
After breakfast, you will be transferred to Khevtee Ukhaa, a Naadam field where you will witness exciting Naadam games including Wrestling, Archery and horse race. Enjoy Chinggis Gala dinner back at the ger camp restaurant as farewell.
Today you drive back to Ulaanbaatar in the morning and upon arrival you will check in at the hotel.
In the afternoon, visit to Zanabazar’s fine art museum after which there is free time for shopping. Enjoy a folklore concert from the magical Tumen Ekh ensemble and have dinner at a local restaurant.
It is time for you to leave Mongolia behind. After your breakfast, you will be transferred to the airport/train station to go home.
